Default 2011 exam change

I have part 7 and 8 to go in the old system.

1) Does that mean I need to take the new exam 6, the corresponding module and the new exam 9 to be a fellow in the new system?

2) Do I have to retake exam 2 since they move part of old exam 8 to exam 2?

1. Yes
2. I don't believe so. Depending on when you finished the prelims, you may get away with never having to be tested on all the derivative stuff.

what RR said. no retaking exam 2. stuff shifts from time to time, depending on the percent of the overall exam, there might be a transition. 2 now is 2 in the new system, so don't worry.

What do you mean by "there might be a transition"?

say they move huge chunks of stuff. huge. like they are with the new exam in ratemaking and reserving. from 2 exams jamming into one where each is about half the material. then they might offer some transitional partial credit while people get the other part. this should only happen in a redesign scenario. not in mere topic shifting, where something like options shifts from exam 8 to 2.

nothing to worry about.

I did go through the syllabus for 8 & 9 and found that they have added & removed significant portions from the syllabus. It seems to me a candidate that passes CAS 9 this session will be better off due to two reasons: will be exempted on CAS 8 in new syllabus and in new CAS 9 35-40% will be Rate of Return models which is already covered in old CAS 9. So passing old CAS 9 should be an advantage during the transition. Please let me know if this makes sense.....

It does to me. I skipped CAS 8 this year for this reason.

Does anybody know what the typical study program response to this change is? My company is cutting back study hours for the fellowship exams due to them being an hour less. I was wondering if this study time reduction was being seen at most other places.
