Not trying to be offensive. I desire to accurately compare behavior or a situation to something that is so nonsensically back-asswards-ly opposite to what is appropriate. I don't see someone mentally or physically handicapped acting this way, which is why retarded is not the word I would use. However, many people do use this word in this situation, which, as you are pointing out, is offensive.
