Even so, virtualization helps. HTC has to make 1 Sense Rom for all of it's handsets, instead of tweaking each one.

Liked the Xoom commercial, am unimpressed with the possible price point. ($800)

I don't give a damn how hot the hardware is, tablet < notebook - and needs to be priced as such.

One point made was that $799 for a 3G and 32GB Xoom isn't all that far off from a similarly speced iPad at $729. I would drop $499 on this in a heartbeat for a 16GB with Wifi version.

If the Xoom performs well, Moto will probably sell a few hundred thousand to people who unconditionally love the idea of an Android tablet.

But at $800, having a lot of success against a $500 iPad in the general consumer market will be challenging.

$800 looks much more like the price of a laptop than a tablet.

They'll need a wifi only version for much cheaper. It may be able to have a higher price point than cheap iPad (since it's the same size, it doesn't have the Samsung Tab's perception that it should be cheaper) but not too much higher.

If it's entry point is $800 - it's a non-starter.

I'm not paying $799.99 for the Moto XOOM? Would you? Oh, yeah, there's fine print: One month Verizon 3G data to, get this, activate the WiFi.
Yeah, we're kind of in the WTF - hell no - price range.

Huh? I have to buy a month to enable the wifi? WTF! Motorola is teh sux0r.

I wonder if you can just root your way around it. Assuming root exploits still work in Honeycomb

These are interesting marketing decisions -- to put it as politely as possible.

Let's not be polite. It effing stupid.

1.) There is only one model - no options that could make it cheaper. I have no interest in a 3G/4G version. WiFi is fine with me.
2.) There is only one carrier - no competition to drive cost down.
3.) The carrier isn't your friend - 1 month of data service to unlock WiFi. Really?
