Kush, of Cyanogen Mod fame is planning an alternative Android Market that will host stuff that Google doesn't allow like rooting apps, emulators, etc. All apps will be reviewed for malware, unlike Google's Android Market.

Sounds good to me.

That's awesome!

And I bet that (unlike Amazon) this market will tell you exactly what permissions each app wants before you pay for it. That's one of my peezes with the Amazon market. Yes, it tells you the permissions before you install, but not until after you've paid. Android market is much more user-friendly that way.

(Android market is also more developer-friendly, but that's a different story.)

Definitely sounds like a plus. It'll be an easier way to get a lot of the apps I install.

Does anybody out there have an Epic 4G Touch (Sprint)? What ROMs would you guys recommend? I would have liked to hold out for the Nexus to get ICS, but my current phone is horrible and I couldn't stand the potential months long wait.

My wife has it. She uses the Caulkin rom and seems to like it. It has been very stable.

Also, FYI, the Epic 4G Touch is unbelievably easy to root. Download a kernel, install it with Odin or Heimdall.

EDIT: The phone itself is awesome too. The battery life is amazing, it gets great signal, the screen looks amazing, and apps install in about 1/3 of the time of my Evo.

My wife has it, and it is a great phone - although she hasn't gone through the trouble of rooting/ROMing it yet. Been trying to get her to take the plunge....

Thanks! I'll have to check that one out. I'm new to the rooting/ROMing business, so the whole thing is a bit daunting, haha.

Of all the causes of astronaut insanity, getting a fly caught inside your space helmet is probably in the top three.
