Default Are there too many police officers in America?

Given the discussion on police and teacher benefits, I thought it would be good to get opinions on this. Teachers, I care less about.

The Nanny State will need more of them to shove us all in our respective "corners" when it all comes down...

This is a tough question to pose to the libertarian echo chamber here.

On the one hand, we need lots of police. But on the other hand, we need to cut taxes.

What to do what to do....

Actually the results seem to indicate most people don't think we need more police. But don't let the facts stop you.

Just about everyone agrees we need fewer cops.
Problem is, if you try and cut it, the police union yells "soft on crime!" and won't back you. So nobody cuts the police force.

As long as there is one cop I think we have too many.

When I mention that cops' pensions should be cut, people I know argue that they deserve it because they put their lives on the line. What a crock!

A. They chose their job, so STFU.
B. Cal trans workers have a higher mortality rate than cops do, so should they get a better pension?

Yeah, the "they put their lives on the line" thing is such horse crap I won't even bother to argue against it, unless somebody wants to argue in the affirmative.

I think that a few cops are worthwhile, mainly those that solve or prevent crimes. That's not that many though. I agree that one soldier is too many.

If you have too few you can't enforce the seatbelt law.
