ASM 6.17

I can't figure out where they get their tPx in the solutions.....mu is 1/(200-x) + 1/(100-x) so why in the solution is tPx = ((200-t)(100-t))/20,000 ? Does it make sense to multiply the two equations like that as if they are independent?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try (but I just noticed all my subscripts in the integrals need to be changed to something like w,z,etc. but you get the idea):

Which equals,

Then, by deMoivre,

But, , thus,

The rest follows as the solution suggests. The tricky part, I believe, is realizing you only integrate this to .

I know there have been previous statements made about how chapter 10/B.2.1 is "fun", but right now I am super overwhelmed by the amount of notation....way more so than chapter 8/B.1.4

How long does it take you guys to get used to all the A bars and n E x 's?

i am not liking this material so far....i "got through" lesson 6, but i still don't know what the symbols mean hardly nor when to use what equation. I'm starting the problems in section 7 but it doesn't seem to be any better....i think i'm going to need to make a flow chart to see how everything connects to each other. I'm seriously envious right now of anyone who studied this in school....
