Not sure if he will read this thread. But if he does, let's not press him about it then.

Jonah Hill is another I just remembered.

Perhaps I could understand the discrimination issue in the pre-WWII era but I doubt that is as big of an issue now.

STE's theory is interesting and I can definitely see the asethetic reasons for some of the changes...However the practice is surprisingly widespread. Can anyone name some famous jewish actors / actresses / directors that haven't changed their names? Jerry Seinfeld is the only example I can think of at the moment.

Happened alot in the old days, John Wayne, Charles Heston (real name was John Carter, other than being too generic) and not even Jewish.

Tom Cruise also for a more modern example.

Dustin Hoffman, Sarah Gellar, Sasha Cohen, Jeremy Piven, Gwyn Paltrow. etc. The Paltrow's somewhere along the way dropped the -icz. Not sure that is strictly jewish though more pOlish? Dropping the ethnicity of names is not just a Jewish thing. Alot of Germans changed spelling for obvious reasons in the 20th century.

Kind of a no-brainer for Cherilyn Sarkisian to have a shorter name to share with her audience.

William Schattner's grandparents shortened their name so as not to have to spell it out for the Goyim all the time.
