Bama, I'm surprised you don't have an Aperture 3 workflow to clean up eyes.

On another note, my Nikkor 50mm prime came in today. Time to go play.

I guess I could use the Retouch brush and clone another part of the eye, but it would be a lot of work and probably wouldn't look great. I think to fix something like that you need to be a photoshop expert.

It looks like you used some fill flash on the face. Is there some reason that didn't show up in the eye?

It's fun to analyze this stuff, but that's actually a very fun picture!

The fill flash I used on the face was actually applied in Viveza 2, lol. In other words, I used photo editing software to brighten the face a little bit. Viveza (and all the Nik software) is very cool in that you drop a control point and it allows you to edit tones similar to the point where you drop the control point. You can also control the size of the editing.

another thing you could consider is a battery grip
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Multi-Po...0345204&sr=8-1

The key purpose of grip for many photographers (myself included) is that it makes the camera so much easier to grip and more natural to shoot portrait perspective because the extra shutter release and dial. It should offer very nice balance with long lens if you are shooting wild life and for anyone with normal or above size hand. Some photographers describe shooting a DSLR without a grip as if one is going outside without wearing pants. For the more expensive Nikon dslr, grip is built-in so you know how Nikon feels about the importance of a grip.

Downside? extra weight, size and it sure cost more than it looks. some people like the extra heft and size as it makes even the smallest dslr looks and feels respectable.

Can someone explain the purpose of the distance index on the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G? From reading the guide, it looks like there is a relationship between aperture and distance index, but I don't understand the concept well enough to use it.

Another question: Do you generally shoot with a lens hood? The consensus online seems to be to leave it on for most situations.

I don't know anything about the distance index thing you are talking about.

I do shot with a lens hood almost always.

Downloaded a program called Portrait Professional last night. It ROCKS! On sale right now for $39.99 ($59.99 for the version that can be used as a plug-in).
