I thought I'd narrowed the field, but then on the weekend cracked and starting thinking about used cars as well as new cars. What I'm looking for:
Automatic, but that override shift thing would be nice to have Around 30k cost, but anything in 25 - 35k would do Fun to drive Enough power to be jumpy off the line, and be able to pass on the highway (about 200 hp minimum is what I have in mind) Drive decent on snowy slippery roads Comfortably seat 4 people (but 2 doors is still ok) Slightly luxurious is nice, but not a huge consideration Fuel economy is nice, but not a huge consideration Style, I'd like it to look "nice", very subjective, but I like the BMW / Mercedes type style, I find Mitsubishi's to generally look wierd. I plan to keep the car for about 6 - 8 years, and put around 15000 kms a year on it (so not much). It will drive me to work once or twice a week, and do errands in the city, then also do a few hundred k's on the highway about once a month. What I've been thinking about so far, along with what I see as the pluses / minuses: Hyundai Genesis coupe, base new or 3.8 used. Pluses: Reliable, really fun to drive Minuses: Not good to drive in winter, not really com Dodge charger, base the 280hp model (don't remember the name) Pluses: powerful, good style, roomy Minuses: If Dodge goes under in my 6 - 8 year window repairs will become difficult, and leave no residual value. Used Mercedes E class, 4 years old with about 60k kilometers Pluses: Roomy, powerful, luxurious, style, it's a mercedes Minuses: Used, more expensive general repairs for brand Used Acura (ctl?) or similar, about the same age / mileage / cost as the Mercedes Pluses: Reliable, roomy, powerful Minuses: Used Honda Accord V6 (the 260 or so HP version) probably used to get in my price range, about 2 - 3 years, 40000 km Pluses: Reliable, roomy Minuses: A bit bland, a bit just like what everyone else drives. Subaru Impreza slightly used to get in my price range Pluses: Really good winter driving, decent power Minuses: Styling a bit odd, not super reliable, used So, what else should I be considering? Just based on the options above which is best "value". General thoughts? The whole experience is just so overwhelming due to the range of choice. A guest on Colbert outlined the issue a while ago, going from no to some choice makes people feel great, but when confronted with today's level of choice they inevitably feel like they've made a sub-optimal decision because there just isn't sufficient time to analyze the avialable choices.

I'm not familiar enough with the metric system to know how much you'll be driving the car

But don't Audi's have pretty bad warranties / reliability in general?

Try googling, or dividing by 1.6.

Also, you won't be driving it all that much, from my poor math skills.
