Default Kareem's Statue

Kareem expressed disappointment that he doesn't have a statue outside the Staples Center. I wish he wouldn't have, but at the same time it's gotta suck to have done what he's done for the Lakers and not be up there with Hearn, West and Magic.

Sorry, but you have to draw a line somewhere, and Kareem wasn't as important as those other three. It wouldn't be wrong to have a statue for him, but it's not some grave oversight either that there isn't one.

I read this. He's a very small man. Figuratively, of course. My Entitlementometer is showing him at 43.2 megawelfarequeens.

Unfortunately this incident speaks much more loudly on his ego than his ability as a basketball player.

Kareem, however, was more important to the Lakers as a basketball player than West was and had a more successful career overall than Magic. He was the leading scorer for the Lakers as late as '85-86, was the Finals MVP in '85 and probably should have won it in '80 (Magic won it with basically one game).

But in the end, his ego dwarfs his considerable height (7-2) and his legacy as a basketball player (second only to Russell in career accomplishments).

I agree with DanielSong. I read in an article the other day that Lakers Management (I don't remember the exact person) has already told Kareem that he will be the next to get a statue. They said they weren't sure when they were going to do it, but he was definitely next. So, I just don't get why he's whining when he knows that it will come sooner or later.

Personally, I think it's kinda stupid, people are going to remember you for what you did on and off the court, not for some stupid statue that sits outside the Staples Center that people only see when they come to the place.

Kareem has always had a chip on his shoulder for whatever reason.

if you had to beat the record of 10,000 women to be legendary, you would be angry too, imo.

I think he has a point. The guy has been working with the Lakers after his career as well, so it's kind of BS to me that you give one to Magic and not him. The guy has the NBA scoring record for crying out loud, mostly with the Lakers. He took care of himself physically before it was popular even.

Sorry, but the Lakers were completely wrong on this one imo.

His statue should reflect this.
