Question: My friends all seem to have pickup tricks to start conversations with guys, and I read about them too — even in Cosmo. But I don't really feel like they're my style. Would a guy really not respond well if I just went up to him and said "Hey, what's up?"

Answer: A lot of those pickup tricks you're talking about do work...and I'm not just saying that because Cosmo signs my paychecks. Guys are suckers, and they never suspect girls might be pulling a fast one on them.

But tricks only get you so far. Any chick who spends hours upon hours on her hair and makeup is still eventually going to wake up next to the guy with her coif in knots and her mascara smeared. The same goes for even the most masterful pickup artists. After those initial few minutes of trickery, they still have to be a real person and connect with the guy.

So go with what comes naturally to you. Walking up to someone, smiling, and starting a conversation is sure to make the dude grateful that for once, he didn't have to do all the work. Oh, did I mention that a little cleavage couldn't hurt either?

Why don't you tell us your stories? I mean, you play club sports and you are obsessed with male physique. It must be getting lonely in that closet.

On an completely unrelated note, a gay guy tried to pick me up the other day.

Which is only like the 3rd time that's happened when I wasn't at a gay bar.

I for some reason read this:

Part and parcel of that subculture is getting so drunk they don't actually remember what happened. It's all about plausible deniability.
