Default How Competitive Are You?

I think I am pretty competitive, but only in the sense that I don't like to lose. Winning every time isn't as important for me.

For example, if I am playing someone in a 5-game set of something, I NEED to win at least 3, but I don't care if I win 3, 4, or 5.

I bring this up because the other day I was playing a friend in tennis and I won the first three sets we played. He was getting kind of visibly upset (he's also very competitive and we are about equal skill), so I 'let' him win the 4th set so that he'd be happier (I use 'let' loosely, I didn't purposefully miss, but I went for less winners and played more defensively - which isn't my game). I told my gf about this and she said she could never do that as she is too competitive and wants to win every time.

So how competitive are you?

Want to win everythime

Doesn't mean I am a bad loser or can't handle it - but you play to win the game.

I would never have thrown the set and would be very upset if suspected someone threw one while playing me.

Even with my kids when playing games, I will never let them win. I will coach and teach, but a win needs to be earned

My wife is overly competitive in everything. She played tennis all 4 years of HS, and I'm the opposite of someone who is athletic at all...so when I beat her at tennis (which actually happens more than it should), she gets so mad that she wants to destroy the world.

Given that I know this...is it really bad that I want to beat her and get that reaction?

And don't even get me started on video games. She wants to make a cooperative game into a competition all the time, but won't tell me what we're competing on in her head until she "wins." Randomly she'll go "HA! I killed more goombas than you that level!" WTF?

Another question: is it bad sportsmanship for one team to run up the score when they're much better than their opponents?

I'm happy with a tie. I know it's like kissing my sister, but where I come from that's not a problem.
