Default Similar to excel rank?

Is there a function I can use to look at an array, and return the rank of the item I'm looking for. For example suppose I have

A,1
B,4
C,6
D,2

I would want to put in a third column that looked at the 1,4,6, and 2 and returns what position in the array the number was. Except in my real world situation the 1,4,6,and 2 are going to be =RAND() functions so I want to click F9, and know if each the B is lowest, C is second lowest etc, and there rank to come in the form of a number. I feel like Excel should have this function somewhere, but it's not INDEX, MATCH, or RANK(It didn't look like rank)

Suggestions?

I'm confused as to why you don't use RANK?
