Perhaps because it's you instead of somebody else? Because it sounds like every other generic first interview I've ever heard of. You're really not that speceial of a snowflake.

Pray that all 75 minutes of the phone call is used. If not, then we have some lovely parting gifts for you.

Every other phone interview listed on this forum has been less than half an hour and usually involves someone from HR, Im asking if this could possibly be this companies way of doing things, I.e. they do what would normally be a 1st face to face interview on the PHONE. No need for sarcasm.

Assume it is a real first interview and be prepared for all the questions you would be prepared for in a face to face interview. It is fine to be over prepared.

where do you live in relationship to the job?

they could be expanding phone interviews to safe travel expenses

I had a few like this. Just expect it to be more technical than the HR screen. I loved this type of interview since it gave me a chance to actually explain more detailed projects.

The HR phone interview is the short version. If the hiring manager and other big bugs are on the phone and they are telling you it will take awhile, it's the real first interview and should be treated as such by you. (Except you can skip the suit.)

I agree, it is likely a cost saving move.

Mr. M's employer is fond of the full inteview via phone for all promotions. (technical field, not actuarial or other insurance.) FWIW, a technique he and other colleagues like to use is to work out points you'd like to cover, anecdotes you'd like to use, etc. for the behavioral type questions. Write them us as bullet lists, large print, one per page. Tape them on the walls of the room where you are taking the call. Walk around the room to the appropriate spot as the questions arise.
