or it could be because they pile the work on to the bright, hard-working asian because they are one of the only really capable people in the company and give the "soft skills" managerial jobs to the less competent people because they can't handle the real work. i've seen this happen. i've seen less competent people managing the bright, hard-working asian even though i'm pretty sure that the asian probably would have been a better manager in the end. really depends on the company.

it probably isn't because they are asian though, but more because they don't speak up and it's easy to take advantage of the fact that they are hard-working. that doesn't mean they can't be good managers though.

That's true. But, I think focusing on the "Asian" aspect is distracting from the real problem.

The word racism was quoting you where you claimed there was rampant racism against asians. My point is that it is hypocritical to call racism and then in the same sentence describe asians as better then everyone else.

The bamboo ceiling exists because too many pandas in China, aka land of bamboo, go to panda heaven. When pandas go to heaven, the bamboo they leave behind gets shipped to the US for making ceilings. If more pandas survived, the bamboo ceiling would not be a problem. This is why the problem exists today. Thank you everybody.

Really?

Those posts were removed? CS's posts are pretty ignorant. I hope they don't get removed though, kind of like how I was against some of anny's posts being removed. People should get a chance to see a poster's true colors.

I don't remember what was in the removed posts. Did someone insult CS directly? Mods don't like that.

CS's comparing Asian issues now to what blacks experienced in the 50's seems ridiculous, but most people are naturallly going to think their issues are the worst, so i'm not sure it's really that terrible to say. everyone is self centered.

Yeah, teh bolded part is true. But, I think he was making a comparison. yeah, it was probably exagerated, since there is no blatant and violent 'in your face' racism nowadays. But, as an Asian American, who didn't grow up in Cali, I've faced pretty outward racism. I've been called names, ranging from Jackie Chan to chink and gook, and have been messed with only because I was Asian (I guess I did live in a ghetto neighborhood). Of course, now that I hang out with adults and more of professional crowds, I rarely see this.

And I think it's time to let this thread go. I think we reached a conclusion that as long as you have good business and soft skills, you will be successful, even though you will suffer a little from the stereotype.
