Default Poker - NL Tournaments with Rebuys

Wanted to get players' opinion.

Have only played in a couple NL tourneys with re-buys. Knocked out early (and often) the first time, took fifth (about 100 players) the second time.

I'm not really a fan of re-buys, I prefer a freezeout format.

I have seen these listed, but am not exactly sure what is meant by rebuy. Can anyone rebuy at anytime, or do you have to be knocked out? I assume there are limits on the number of rebuys? Do you rebuy in at the same price for the same number of chips as initially given?
I realize this is not answering your question, but it's not completely tangent either. Thanks.

I voted No, but I'll play them. However sometimes they can be pretty fun.

Different at different casinos. At Stars you can rebuy anytime you are below 1500 during the first hour.

Again different at different casinos. At Stars the number of re-buys are unlimited. I've played at many casinos that only allow one re-buy.

You guessed it, different for different casinos. At Stars you get 1500 for a rebuy, but 2000 for the add-on. They cost the same as the initial buy-in. A the Grand in Tunica, you get more chips for the re-buy even though it cost the same.

Actually re-buy tournaments are good for the players. For example, assume a $10+1 re-buy tournament with add-ons.

It's not uncommon to see 400 entrants, 500 re-buys, and 350 add-ons. Total prize pool = 10 x (400+500+350) = 12,500. Fee = 1 x 400 = 400. Fee / Prize Pool = 3.2%

Now look at a $30+3 tournament with 400 players. Prize pool = 30 x 400 = 12,000. Fee = 3 x 400 = 1200. Fee / Prize Pool = 10%

Good point. I'm asking from the perspective of the style of play. I find you need more luck than normal to survive the rebuy period. The hand that got me on the way last weekend was pocket tens. UTG raised 2xBB, I raised him All-in (about 10xBB) hoping for a heads up against a small stack. Instead I got 3 total callers, dodged major bullets without making a set to more than triple up.

This is one of many examples of luck at my table of those that survived, especially with drawing hands going all-in. There were only four hands that didn't end in a showdown in an entire hour.

Depends on the buy-in of the tournament (and cost of the re-buys). In a $10 rebuy tournament you will find a lot of people gambling. Thus your variance will be much higher, but so will your EV. One of the best players on Stars (Premier) loves to play the $10 rebuy tournaments. During the re-buy tournament he will often move-in with any two cards. I played at his table once and it was a ball. Blinds 15/30, he was first to act and he moved in with 65s. He moved in 4 or 5 hands in a row. Ever time he busted he would do a double re-buy (re-buy for 1500 and then immediately re-buy for another 1500). This all-in fever spread like wildfire and soon many players were moving all-in. After the first hour every player at the table was above average stack size. Most players were 2x the average stack size.

sounds like a table could really work together to get everyone's chip counts up compared to other tables.

Freeman won the $50 re-buy NL tournament last night on Stars (well chopped when it was down to 2, then he went on to win) and picked up $4,300.

He busted on the first hand of the tournament. Made one re-buy, then added-on.
