As for the actual point in the OP.

God is 'perfect', but never claims to be fair. He says gay sex is sin, yet makes people gay. Sucks for the gay person, but he can never have sex if he wants to abide by the word of God. God never claimed that he gives everyone equal chance at salvation or that he doesn't test some more than others (see: Job).

This assumes that there is a god to speak to and that at some point people were able to. Neither of which really fit my worldview.

So why is god great if he sets people up to fail? I don't get it.

he makes some people too ugly to find someone to have sex with too. the gays are lucky. they just need to sin in order to have sex, unless they are both ugly and gay.

Possibly because 2,000 years ago, God felt a need to come down and say something, and now he doesn't.

Alternatively, because God's power isn't actually limitless, it is only limitless in our eyes, and he simply cannot touch our world anymore.

Alternatively, because time works differently for God and he sees all time lines at once, so in his mind he has already told us something once in our life, so why do it again.

Alternatively, he is here now in the form of Tim Tebow.

If this is the case, why do some people compare gays to molesters?

Apparently, god hates the gays but not the molesters.

so, how do we know that those who thought they were talking to god 2000 years ago weren't just all suffering from mental illness?

He doesn't set them up to fail, he tests them more than he tests others. And even if they fail, they often can still find redemption eventually.

Sure. Perhaps the ugly are really the lucky ones.
