Default Business Intelligence Department - what do they do?

What do they do? I figured it was people who gathered info on competitors. But that's wrong, apparently. Anyone know? Does your department have a BI team?

Thanks!

I'm guessing it's where they put the executives' useless relatives whom they can't fire, but can't put in a position to actually do anything and damage the business.

In another company that I'm familiar with but do not control, they are basically reporting people. You say "I want to count something", and they design a report that you can have on your desktop where if you double-click the icon, it produce the count of that something. Then they go on break.

We don't have a department called that, or currently one that "does" that. But when we did, it was basically the (very smart) people, including a lot of actuaries who were designing the systems to capture data and design reports in ways that UWs and execs could really see what the company was doing.

It's the department that does things like secretly keep track of who is taxing the healthcare costs for the company and who has complained about how things are done etc.

They engage in a generic endorsement of baked goods.

These seem the closest.

Apparently we have a BI department and they are purchasing a BI tool that I am just going to spooge myself over. When I asked what it does they told me a bunch of shit about reporting on stuff that I care nothing about.

I don't know but it is probably just as much an oxymoron as Military Intelligence.
