Default February 2012 exam

Standard affair as the last x number of threads.

I bought this manual last April. I work in an administrative department that is non-actuarial, so I'm not on the same time frame like 99% of the other candidates are. I am on my second pass through the material with ASM (I supplemented my studies with Finan's book for things I couldn't grasp on first try).

I am on the last two sections of the derivatives portion and it's tougher than I remember at some parts. Conceptually, most of it is easy.

I am taking a week off between tomorrow and New Year's to just recharge and prepare for marathon study sessions every night.

I am taking this 2/17/2012 at 12 PM which is the last possible time to take it in the testing cycle.

Also taking the exam on 2/17 but at 11:30 ha, I'm just running through chapter 1 of ASM right now. Kind of slow but preparing for those marathon sessions as well. I want to try to finish the material before February begins so I can just focus on practice exams. I'll update my status in a week or so.

I don't think I'll even get to practice exams because I'm still struggling on a bulk of the material. Should be fun going into this thing blind as a bat in terms of taking PEs!

You've almost finished the second pass through ASM? Did you do the practice problems at the end of the chapters? If not, I suggest that you slow down, doing practice problems as you read the material to make sure you understand everything in every chapter.

I think that's a bad idea. From my experience in taking FM, the best way to study for this exam is to write down all the different types of problems you can get (and trust me, there are only a few categories once you sit down to write them out)...and then to do as many practice problems as you can of each category. Change numbers, create your own questions, all of those are great studying ideas for FM.

I know that taking 8 practice exams saved my ass come exam day because I knew how to pace myself and FM has a lot of material on it. You are going to want to get comfortable with how you time each problem.

That's just my advice though.

Yeah, I tend to work pretty fast regardless though. I really don't think the PEs are going to matter if I'm still struggling with the bulk of material two weeks before exam time. I'm confident I won't be, but there's always that possibility. I allotted the week before the exam to be review so that would include PEs if I have time to do it.
