Why are Republicans so anxious to start a war with Iran?

I'm not sure this is their real objective. My theory is that they want to demonstrate a greater affinity to Israel than Obama has -- and thereby steal some of the Jewish vote (and money) that ordinarily goes Democratic. It's also helpful with evangelical Christians who worry about the Holy Lands falling into Muslim hands. In any case, lots of anti-Iran posturing goes a long way without really any need to take action. Moreover, it's quite harmless because the Republicans know that Obama -- appropriately, for once -- will never ever go to war with Iran (unless they attack us first, which is guaranteed annihilation).

All of this pandering to Israel is pretty disgusting, really. They can defend themselves.

But good practice, right? We obviously didn't learn much from Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe the Persians will be easier. I wonder if the Shah has a kid that we can put in power there.
