One of the largest student religious groups at Vanderbilt will be leaving campus at the end of the year in a dispute over the university’s nondiscrimination policy.

That policy bars student groups from requiring their leaders to hold specific religious beliefs.

Leaders of Vanderbilt Catholic said that rule makes no sense. They won’t comply and instead will become an independent, off-campus ministry.

“The discriminatory non-discrimination policy at Vanderbilt University has forced our hand,” the Rev. John Sims Baker, chaplain of Vanderbilt Catholic, said in a statement Tuesday. He added: “Our purpose has always been to share the Gospel and proudly to proclaim our Catholic faith. What other reason could there be for a Catholic organization at Vanderbilt?”

My child and my money will not be going to an anti-christian school like Vandy.

Ok, maybe it is the atheists being anti-religious to all organizations, and not specifically anti-christian. Point is the Catholic one was the largest affected. So maybe I should assume they were really targeting a small one.

Point remains the rule was aimed at making Vandy an anti-christian place. You can broaden it to being intolerant of all religious organizations if you like. My child and my money won't be going there irregardless.

Catholics aren't really Christian. They pray to Mary sometimes. Jesus is the only way.

why does it have to be targeting?

The Catholic group kicked out a member for being gay, they targeted themselves. They brought it on themselves.

Then all religious groups got screwed because the school reviewed the charters and they won't allow leadership that is not of their faith. I am ok with that as a rule. But now the religious groups either have to move off campus, change their bylaws (doubtful) or get the school to change their rules (possible - but takes time).

My religious group will allow anyone to be a member, but only people of my faith can be an officer of the group.

What happened wasn't targeting but the by product of homophobia
