the area is mostly businesses and not all that neighborhoody. not that most sections of manhattan are neighborhoody, but that section is even less so.

i looked up herald towers on streeteasy.com and it's damn expensive though just like the rest of the city, so maybe not.

yeah, not sure that really makes the prices go up once you're in manhattan and below certain streets.

Stricly an anecdote, but I live rural. Our house probably qualifies as a Mc Mansion. It's not underwater, and we have quite a bit of equity in it. My town has no Applebees. It pretty much shuns chain restaurants with table service. (Fast food chains are not hindered.) We have some really excellent Basque style restaurants. Some very good general restaurants and some really crappy ones. You'd think with the substantial hispanic population here, the Mexican restaurants would be better, but they aren't.
Yeah, I was parodying things that I often hear, don't know if I made that clear or not.

In my experience, you get a very vocal minority who likes to bag on the alternative. If I had to guess, I would assume it would be a way to justify their choice. You see this a LOT in the PC vs Mac, and iPhone vs Android arena too. While it is kind of childish, I find it very entertaining.

No offense, I realized your post was parody. I just get tired of the "po" snobbery, and the anti-city snobbery as well. It lost its entertainment value for me a long time ago.
