Could someone please help me with regards to Revenue Codes if you happen to work with those? What are they please? I understand CPT codes and the way they are broken down. But how do revenue codes fit into the big picture?
Thank you in advance. And I did spell this out completely, for your convenience. Thank you |

Do you understand the difference between UB04 and CMS1500 claim forms? Revenue codes are found on UB04s and generally tell you where the service was provided. Beyond that, I rely on lookup tables if I ever have to do research based on revenue codes.

Thank you! I believe Ub040 is for hospital claim form, altho not quite certain about CMS1500 (I believe it is for physician). I saw a cross walk revenue code/cost center from CMS, would that be helpful here please?

Revenue code is a description of which department within a hospital is billing the claim

let's say you were getting MRI at hospital, within a certain dept (say the Radiology Dept). Would you then get a CPT code as well as Revenue code? In contrast, say to getting the MRI outside the hospital, where you would only maybe get the CPT?

yeah, the MRI claim would contain CPT code(s) for a radiology service(s) along with the radiology department revenue code. if the MRI occurs at a facility then the claim should contain both the CPT and revenue code. if the MRI is given at a doctors office then no revenue code because no UB claim
