Yes, but it is fun to watch the contortions people will go through to claim otherwise, no?

Can you explain it (without using those dread plug-and-chug formulas) in 100 words or less?

Yes, and I didn't learn it on any actuarial exams. I learned it in, shudder, a classroom.

Eta: well, I dunno about 100 words or less. Guess it depends on what knowledge you assume the reader already has. If they know what a put, risk-free rate, and arbitrage are, probably. If they don't know what a stock is, probably not.

How about I don't because you're just diverting attention from the argument at hand? Even if I didn't know, this is simple to look up in any derivatives text or even Wikipedia.

I see your point. This thread has been focused without any tangents for 20 pages. Why disrupt it now?

Lol true. I've even said "let's get back on track" several times. Unfortunately, no one convinces anyone of anything on the AO. Guess we all know best, huh?

Options are simple to explain in theory, at least the financial perspective. The problem is the statistical portion which doesn't go into depth on the MFE exam and shouldn't have to. They need to test statistics at greater depth on Exam P, but they don't.
