None of us are working in factories in horrible conditions/doing hard manual labor.

I'd rather come in to work, do some thinking, some programming, browse the AO, browse other internet stuff, talk to some clients, socialize with coworkers, etc. than sit at home with the kid(s) all day watching children's TV shows/cooking/cleaning. And not because I have some sort of "I am Man, I am Money Provider" mentality, but just because what I do day-to-day is much easier and funner than being a SAHD.

Why not sit at home, do some thinking, some programming, browse the AO, browse other internet stuff, socialize with Debbie next door, and not watch kids TV shows? And you don't have to cook or clean, that's what the woman is for. She'll be home by 6.

Hard is more than just the number of hours doing things. 8 hours at the office and 4 hours parenting each day may be a lot easier mentally than 12 hours of parenting, especially on the days when the kids are sick, didn't nap, or just have some reason to be crabby or difficult. Kids < age 5 can be a lot of work, especially if you have more than one to deal with.

Rosen poorly worded the comment, but she was more getting at the idea that Ann's decision to be a SAHM was completely an option for her due to Mitt's success. Many familys "need" both parents to go out and work to support the family. Ann Romney does not represent that at all.

to me saying that something is "hard" means you would rather not do it. so, all those women bitching about being a sahm being "hard" should go out there and get a freaking job and put their kids in day care because obviously they don't enjoy being parents to begin with.
