Default Meep's Birthday Beer Report

So Stu got me 5 different beers (no Old Rasputin, alas), and here's the score thus far:

Highland Wild Ale - (Stu bought it b/c of the bottle... which he's going to reuse)
I took a sip, did not care for its tang. Took another sip to try to get used to the idea.... no.
Handed it to Stu, who finished it off.

The people reviewing it there seemed to have liked it. I'm thinking wild ale is not for me.

Next up was Berkshire Brewing Co's Shabadoo Black & Tan
This is more my type of beer, very mocha-ish...will go for it again
Perfect for chilling outside

Third for yesterday was Redhook's nut brown ale
had a bit of burnt flavor to it, didn't like it as much as the Shabadoo

I like wild ale, but it's definitely a taste you either like or don't

We're a bit spoiled in Philadelphia, but the Russian River series of Wild Ales (Consecration, Supplication, Sanctification, etc.) are unbelievable and available pretty much all year round. I'd recommend trying if you want to get into the genre (or sours)

So now I'm trying the remainder. While Stu couldn't find Old Rasputin, he did find Sea Monster Imperial Stout.

meh. It's something I would drink again, and has a nice strong coffee-like flavor. But it does remind me of Stu's last chocolate stout he brewed, and it would be much cheaper if he just brewed it again.

I like Sea Monster but at 10% it is too hot to drink fresh. I'd try to age it, but the coffee notes will fade and there are better coffee stouts to try that experiment with.

It's not that hot here today. I'd say in the 50s outside. Rainy. It was fine for a rainy day, not that strong.

We keep our beer cellared, so it had been sitting at about 50-ish for the past couple days. Generally, we don't keep beer in the fridge, unless it's something that needs its flavor hidden.

Last of the bday beers: Widmer Brothers Pitch Black IPA

Like the Shabadoo, I'd consider this an easy-drinking beer
Relatively low alcohol content (relative to the imperial stout and the wine I usually drink)
noticed the fruitiness (or perhaps that's the hops), got that dark malt taste, but not overwhelmingly so

Would drink again. Yummy.

The heat I refer to is in the mouth - not outside.

I find that the only way to truly appreciate a beer is after two 151 and cokes plus a shot of Jose. Have you tried that?
