Default Arizona Style, SOA Leaders Attend May 19-20 CAS Board Meeting in Phoenix.

In less than two weeks the CAS Board meets in Phoenix, where some SOA leaders are supposed to show up. In Arizona meetings under circumstances like this tend to go like:

Yes, but you have to let them know in advance.

Quote:
The CAS Board of Directors adopted the following policy at its meeting on March 1, 2001.

1. CAS Board meetings are open to members as observers.

2. For planning purposes, members wishing to attend should advise the CAS Office (Executive Director or Executive Secretary) at least 48 hours in advance of the meeting.

3. The CAS Office will apprise the CAS President and Board Chairperson when a member request to attend is received.

4. Members attending Board meetings are not entitled to vote. They may not attend executive sessions, which will be identified in the agenda (e.g., personnel discussions).

5. Draft agendas and approved minutes for CAS Board meetings will be posted on the CAS Web Site, in the Member Services section.
If anyone would like to attend and post their observations and impressions that would be appreciated by those of us not going to the meeting.

Despite the implications to the CAS of the SOA's recent General Insurance initiative, there are good reasons for the SOA to be doing this and they are mainly international in nature.

The relationships between officers of the CAS and SOA remain cordial. There will be no "Arizona style" shoot out as the OP is trying to portend.

The first paragraph is pretty vague.

The second paragraph is clearly false given the letter put out by the CAS president declaring that working for both the CAS and the SOA was a conflict of interest. Maybe it it, maybe it isn't, but publishing the letter would seem to be a fairly adverserial act.

I don't doubt the meeting will be cordial, but assuming the SOA does not regularly attend these meetings, then I agree with the OP's basic intent of their post, which is the SOA is likely there for nefarious/self-serving purposes and nothing so dignified and vague as 'international in nature'. More likely monitoring their competition.
