So, abdominal fat. So, waist size is more relevant. Which is why I refer to a body-fat calculator that uses only weight and waist size for men (height doesn't matter). waist:hip ratio should be closely aligned to weight.
That said, I should check my hip size. My badonkadonk is pretty compact.
BMI may be a solid predictor of the comorbidities ( including diabetes, LDL cholesterol, hypertension, prevalent coronary heart disease, heart failure, and left ventricular hypertrophy) that are useful in predicting sudden cardiac death.

BMI is much quicker and easier to measure than any of the other measurements but definitely not perfect.

Need to drop 6lbs to get to the 'underweight' bucket -- now I have a goal for this month!

I'm glad I did this right!! (Although technically, I didn't pick the right parents but the right parent to inherit my genes from... sorry sis! )

I could never eat whatever I wanted so at least you had a few years of enjoyment.

I guess. I also had some stomach issues back then which probably helped me to not get fat.

Few years of food enjoyment in the past is not necessarily a positive though. You just get used to being able to eat whatever and then it really really sucks not to be able to anymore.

It would be interesting to compare BMI's across countries. I expect part of the reason we think BMI overstates obesity is that we are fat as a country and we compare ourselves to those around us.

Meh, you should also compare the average mental image a person has when they hear the word "obese". Do you think when people in France hear "obese" they picture a lady who has to wear XL, or a lady who is roughly spherical like we do?

I mean, I don't know, maybe they do. But we think BMI overstates obesity because the image of obesity in the media is a lot higher than a BMI of 30.

I think the French would think a fat lady is fat. I know I feel fat when I am in some places in Europe and skinny in certain places in America. I am not sure why the perspective would be different from others viewing me. Everything is relative.
