I lived in Louisiana for 8 years and never had a power bill that was more than $200. Still less than half of $500.

Also, for the other poster, I don't have a $500 energy bill now. I was just assuming (incorrectly) that if energy prices increased eight-fold then so would my electric bill.
Natural gas isn't the only source of power.

eh they've been threatening huge power bills for 40 years now. Never happens. Problem being, those poor people the govt loves can afford only so much. And you can't charge people in bev hills more than people in compton.

and both sides need their fridge and a/c. Unless the govt wants poor people to undergo a massive lowering of quality of life.

OK. Many places in the southern US can have electric bills in the summer of $500. Not your house the way you keep it in Louisiana though.

I like it <70 at night and have family that keep the AC on during the day. Start hitting 100 degree temps and it's not hard to reach $500. Especially with an older AC.

Yep. Got tired of living in the U.S. and wasn't seeing any great opportunities back in Canada.

Sounds like a perfect solution then, electricity prices go up, people get more efficient AC, people use less electricity. Market forces at their finest IMHO.
