Ok, here is the collection of links to prior versions of the game...
April 2010 (World Series: rekrap over Dr. John Zoidberg, 3rd place: Patience over Mr F) May 2010 (World Series: Abstract Actuary over OddSox, 3rd place: SirVLCIV over bfore13) June 2010 (World Series: Jables over ldancer911, 3rd place: strategygamer over yankeetripper) Post All Star Break 2010 (World Series: bfore13 over Abstract Actuary, 3rd place: Blue Eyes White Dragon over GoHuskies) April 2011 (World Series: Dr. John Zoidberg over violaactuary, 3rd place: Halfmoon over dinosaur) May 2011 (World Series: MountainHawk over lipman, 3rd place: Oliver Klozov over OddSox) June 2011 (World Series: Agadefe over Big Pete, 3rd place: Mr F over Force of Interest) Post All Star Break 2011 (World Series: MountainHawk over Dr. John Zoidberg, 3rd place: Roy Hobbs over dinosaur) April 2012 (World Series: violaactuary over rekrap, 3rd place: act2106 over SirVLCIV) May 2012: (World Series: OddSox over Ezekial Cumberland, 3rd place: Big Pete over lipman) June 2012: (World Series: greenman over Ultimate Anyone?, 3rd place: IAHAWKEYE over InSpades) This game is open to 32 players, no more, no less. The last 8 standing from the June game (Ezekial Cumberland, Ultimate Anyone?, yankeetripper, IAHAWKEYE, Agadefe, InSpades, greenman, and Oliver Klozov) are guaranteed a spot in this month's game, but the other 24 spots are up for grabs. I'm hoping we can get as many former champions and 11-time players as possible to get in on this game, since it will be the last iteration of it that I'll be running. If someone else wants to step in and keep it going in 2013, I'm all for it! All you need to do to enter is choose one team from each of the 10 groups below: GROUP 1 Nationals Rangers Yankees GROUP 2 Angels Pirates White Sox GROUP 3 Braves Cardinals Reds GROUP 4 Dodgers Giants Rays GROUP 5 Blue Jays Mets Red Sox GROUP 6 Athletics Orioles Tigers GROUP 7 Brewers Diamondbacks Indians GROUP 8 Marlins Phillies Royals GROUP 9 Mariners Rockies Twins GROUP 10 Astros Cubs Padres This will be a much longer version of the game than we've played up until now and will run for the rest of the MLB season. (Edited to revise dates after we had to push back the start of the season) The 32 players will be split into 2 leagues, each with 4 divisions of 4 players. Over the course of 52 days from July 16th - September 5th, your roster will match up against that of each of the 16 opponents in the opposite league once, each of your three divisional opponents four times, and each other team in your league but not in your division twice. After the sign-ups are complete, I will slot the teams into leagues and divisions, and post the daily head-to-head schedule. The scoring is as follows: +5 points for each win by a team you selected -2 points for each loss by a team you selected +1 point for each run you win by in your victories Total up your points for the day and compare to that our your opponent and see who gets the W and who takes the L. In case of any ties for division title and/or playoff spots, there is time off built into the schedule on September 6th before the playoffs start, where the ties can be broken with a head-to-head matchup. There will be 8 playoff teams per league, composed of the 4 division winners, the 2 next best W/L/T records, and then the 2 next best total points scored. For seeding purposes, the division winners will be seeds #1-4, ranked by W/L/T record, they will get to choose their opponents for the first round, thus determining which wild card teams get slotted into seed #5-8. There is no reseeding in the playoffs. In this version of the game, the playoff series will be longer, using a best-of-5 format, and we won't play on Mondays/Thursdays to reduce the chances of teams being idle in the playoffs. The first round is September 7th/8th/9th/11th/12th, the quarterfinals September 14th/15th/16th/18th/19th, the league championships September 21st/22nd/23rd/25th/26th, and the World Series September 28th/29th/30th/October 2nd/3rd. And in case there are any ties, we can use the scheduled off days on Thursdays and Mondays as tiebreakers if needed... Sign ups are open now, and feel free to ask any questions in this thread... In! Picks to come later.
I've won my division twice this year, followed by a first round bow-out in the playoffs.
