I've had at least three instances this year where I've gotten a funny look after saying dis-per-it. I think it's one of those words that everyone gets wrong. Kind of like Maraschino.

i found out the "proper" pronunciation of oxymoron relatively recently, and it's a lot more fun to say than the usual American pronunciation

but i can't use that pronunciation generally, as only the most insufferable pedants would recognize it

I don't even know how to say "Campbell". Is the "p" silent? If not, then the whole word takes some effort to pronounce.
