I won't be participating in the fantasy baseball league, so there's no reason for me to hold on to my powerful 2002 baseball season secret.

Ahhh, Woody Williams. Pitcher for the Cardinals. Let's take a look at those statistics...

Height: 6'0"
Weight: 195

Last Year: 15-9, 4.05 ERA, Approx. 3-1 K/BB, opponents batting average .268..... hardly impressive, maybe even the opposite.

Career: 65-63, 4.20 ERA, less than 2-1 K/BB, opponents batting average .256..... even less impressive.

This guy has had a solid yet unspectacular career, a lifetime number three starter who loses as often as he wins. So I am here to make the call that this is Woody's year. I'm calling a 20-win season with around a 3.00 ERA, a 4-1 K/BB ratio, and about 7 strikeouts per inning pitched. In short, an All-Star season, maybe even Cy Young.

Why you ask? Because I don't know what happened to him, but the last half of last season he was ON. His sinker was the sharpest I've ever seen, his slider made the batters look like idiots, his curve made them statues. It was incredible... if any of you watched Game 3 of the Cardinals-Diamondbacks playoffs, you saw what I'm talking about.

So throughout the season, I will periodically be posting in this thread to update you on his progress and remind you all where you heard this first. And when Woody Williams wins the Cy Young Award and SportsCenter tries to tell people "wow, no one saw that coming!," you can say, oh no... Drz knew. Drz knew.

Ahhh, minimal interest in this thread, excellent. That'll all change in a couple months.

In the meantime, you'll have to read this thread each time I post something new on the off-chance someone posted something interesting. Don't worry, I won't do this too often.

On the last at bat in each inning they line up 5 guys in a row, Bugs Bunny style, and he strikes them all out at once.

Maybe he'll climb the Empire State Building to rob some poor shmuck of a game winning home run, and keep his own ERA down in the process.

With no knowledge whatsoever about this guy, I'd bet that this season lowers his career stats rather than raising them.

I haven't followed baseball in years, but I recall several Reds pitchers having great seasons and then blowing it the next year. My prime example is Rob Dibble. I'm bad with names, but there was another Reds pitcher in the early '90s who was up for Cy Young one year, and was nothing but a big disappointment the next year. I'm sure someone will know who I mean, fill in the name, and add the stats. I believe his first name started with "D".

I listened to his first spring training start on the radio. The announcers said absolutely none of his pitchers were straight.

Just two innings pitched. It should've been two 1-2-3 innings, but the left fielder lost the sixth batters pop-up in the sun and it fell in for a "double." The next batter got the only real hit, a squibbling grounder, and drove in the run. All told, 2 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 3 strikeouts.

But if not for the lost ball in the sun, it would've been 2 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts. Things are looking good for this year's Cy Young winner.
