Default Post count

I don't frequent other boards (no time) so really have nothing to compare the RF culture too. Are other internet discussion forums this obsessed with post count? It ain't just me (but maybe I started it?) judging by all the pure post count padding threads in the reef. Anyone that frequents other boards let us know. Was it like this on the WC? Thanks again!

I think of it more as an "in-joke" than an obsession.

It probably had its origins on the WC with the development of "PIP ratios".

Post count is definitely an obsession at most of the other bb's I go to. Moreso than here, actually. :o

No, I think numerous "post here as many times continuosly as you can" threads = obsession. Yes, I forgot about the PIP ratios! Thanks!

It got to be a real problem on the SOA Desert forum. With their old software, you couldn't sort the entire Memberslist by postcount, but you could get a list of the Top Ten posters. It was really competitive. Some people posted as often as once a month to protect their spot in the top ten.

Interestingly, the only important thing seemed to be whether you were in the top ten. The top two, having built up uncatchable leads with something like 300 and 200 total posts respectively, each went over a year without posting.

The newest Desert software doesn't have a Top Ten posters feature, and for that reason and no other there are very few posts being made.

We'd disable that feature here as well if @ndy L@ng was showing up in the #1 spot consistently.

I'm confused. How are we supposed to find out what happens on other boards, with first-hand knowledge. I checked with my wife, who frequents a parenting board, and she said they just added signature-line logos that hype your post count. She was really excited to get her 1,000-post gif recently. She's on the board all the time and has been a regular for nearly 3 years now
