Default Condy is high, not Bush...

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- As President Bush begins a week of foreign diplomacy, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice insists that he will one day rank alongside such towering pillars of 20th century statecraft as President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
"Statesmanship has to be judged first and foremost by whether you recognize historic opportunities and seize them," Rice said in an interview with Cox Newspapers.

"When you think of statesmen, you think of people who seized historic opportunities to change the world for the better, people like Roosevelt, people like Churchill, and people like Truman, who understood the challenges of communism. And this president has been an agent of change for the better -- historic change for the better."

They're already starting to think about his legacy. Doubts must be creeping in.

They remind me of used car salesmen. The salesmen know that they are selling crap, the buyers know the product is likely crap, but for some reason enough dumb people walk up to keep him in business.

"I feel badly that the Iraqi people had to live under that monster for as long as they did," she replied.
Urgh!

That expression (together with "bitterly cold") is one of my pet peeves.

And then there are those who think every used car salesman is selling crap even when they're not. Just because they're an used car salesman.
So tree, you'd rank W up there with FDR?

Give her a break. She's hanging around Bush.

Aside from that, I don't think I would have ever even thought that what she said there sounded incorrect, so it must be pretty commonly used.
You're right -- many people use that expression even though it's wrong.

Like I wrote, it's a pet peeve of mine. It makes my skin crawl. But that's just me.

They should follow your buddy Bill's example. He never, ever worried about his legacy.
Got it. Now it's ok since it's your boy. Cool.

I find her inclusion of FDR in that list to be an unfortunate choice. Your point is taken.
You would rank W as one of the great statesmen in history?
Yea, that coalition of the willing is rather WWII-esque.
We got 5 peacekeepers from the Azerbaijan! God Bless America!

Clinton is gone.
It's been 4 years.
Let it go.

Did I say that?

I was actually implying the oppposite. About how now it's not OK since it isn't your boy.
Actually, given the sarcasm dripping from your post, it was easy to think you were implying the opposite.
