Default Canadian Actuaries

Hi All,

I believe the CIA published a salary survey some time ago. I was wondering how much a new FSA would make on average in say perhaps Toronto. Obviously ranges will vary for consultants, reinsurers and insurance.

Thanks in advance

The most recent info I could find at the CIA website (www.actuaries.ca) was from 1993. However, they did publish a salary survey in May 2001 - but apparently not to the general public. If you're an FCIA, you might try contacting them directly. I don't know of a better place to get Canadian information (unless Claude is going to run a query on his database for you).

I went back and looked at our data. We don't have enough on new Fellows in Canada. (Glenn, I'm going blind typing in this tiny font :o ). A rule of thumb is that the range quoted on our compensation survey in USD is also applicable to Canadian dollars. In other words, our 10%-90%-ile range for Life & Health Fellows with 7-9 years of experience is 88-127K. A reasonable estimate in Canada would then be 88-127 Canadian. Almost all of the Canadian compensation that we have data on follows this general rule.

Winnie - I have a copy at home from 2001, based on 2000 salaries I think. If you can wait until Wednesday, I'll bring it in and let you know. It's pretty specific, showing discipline and years of experience. If you want to PM me that info, so as not to out yourself, I'm happy to keep your info to myself.
