Announced today, due diligence in early October, proposal in early October, SoA Board vote in mid-October, CAS Board vote in mid-November, membership vote in early 2019...

For something just announced, it looks like the wheels have been in motion behind the scenes for a while. If that's not the case, it just seems like a pretty quick timeline. Why the rush?

From the FAQ page at http://www.strongerasone.net/#/faq:

Quote:
Collaboration discussions began in December 2016. Discussions originally focused on a combination of the educational systems only, but then expanded to consider the benefits to our members, candidates, employers, academics, regulators and the profession as a whole if we moved to combining the organizations beyond just the educational systems. We recognized that our respective organizations’ missions and visions were remarkably similar, and we could add great value through a full combination. The Boards have not yet completely worked through details of a potential combination, but felt it was important to make members aware of the discussions and provide members the opportunity for input.

I, for one, welcome our new CAS underlings. Think of all the time you will save typing 3 instead of 4 chars in your credentials.

Wow! That's unexpected.

Why don't they start by jointly offering some prelims again? The two organizations are more distinct now than they were in the past, so how about at least restoring the prior status quo before going full steam ahead with a merger?

The lack of joint prelims should be considered urgent as it actively hurts every single person who is contemplating an actuarial career.

Once that problem is fixed (and yes, it is an embarrassing problem... or at least our leaders *should* be embarrassed by it, even if they aren't) *then* look at completing a merger. Preliminary exams should be priority #1.
