Default Paypal

I heard that it is a good company and you can use it to pay on net. You can open an account with them and then use it to transfer money to other accounts, etc....
never used it. But, one of my senior actuaryies did use it. But, I should not be held accountable if there is some other company and it is a spoof.

cuz right now, i have a fraud w/ my paypal account...got an email from service@paypal.com and asked me to update information...otherwise, your account is suspended or something like that..so i filled it out and it turned out to be a spoof because the paypal customer service said the emails that are actually from paypal usually address you in your real name..so it'd be Dear John Smith..not Dear Members

what a mess it is...have to be on the phone everyday, either w/ paypal or bank or the Equifax (since they know my ssn now) to make sure no one has misused my identity..

there's an article on msn today..maybe you should check it out
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5519990/

and there's a test to see if you can tell which emails are legitmate or fraud
http://survey.mailfrontier.com/surve...phishingiqtest

i want to see those people going to jail!

Paypal is a great service, especially if you buy/sell on Ebay. No hassle credit card payments.
About the spoof. I also got an email from service@paypal telling me to reauthorize my credit card. It had a textbox for credit card number right in my email (hence HTML email). I decided, that I don't want to reenter my credit card number via email and went to the regular paypal site and my account turned out to be in good standing. To summarize, never announce your credit card number via email. Always go to the site directly.

My overall impression about Paypal is that it is a great and convenient way to transfer money from one person to another and it's FREE.

HTH.

I have used paypal and do find it very convenient.

It's a good idea to never provide information when asked by e-mail (or over the phone, for that matter). It is my practice to go directly to the organization supposedly requesting the information. This has spared me several major headaches.

PayPal is a decent online payment service as long as you never run into any trouble with the person you are either buying or selling from. In my best attempt to make a long story short, I actually had my account suspended and my balance (about $50) frozen by PayPal a couple years back because an eBay customer filed false complaints against my PayPal account.

The buyer claimed that I had tried to overcharge her on shipping or something, citing PayPal's policy that users cannot charge additional prices over the agreed eBay terms to use their service. While this is true and understandable, the problem is THE WOMAN NEVER USED MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT! So instead of doing any investigation into whether or not this woman was on my account as a payer, they froze EVERYTHING and demanded I turn over my SSN, a credit card statement, bank statement, and some other form of ID to prove I was a legit user. WTF?? Needless to say, I have boycotted them ever since.

Also worth noting, PayPal is now being sued by former users on grounds that THEY were overcharging on the fees to use them. Turns out that the charges they were taking to accept payments from your buyers are not exactly kosher. ****ers... they get what the deserve.
