Default A question (more statistics than exam-like; C1 or C4)

I was given a question compairing people height and arm length are statsicaly them same. I am a bit lost. This is two independ variables and I would do the following steps.

Find the mean of the differences of each pair.
Then the S.D. and then find the test value, and then do a P-test?

just wondering.

Default Its all about P

My teacher calls it a P-test. When you find the p-value and see if its less than alpha.

I get kinda confused by her because she just tells us what buttons to push on the ti-83 Plus.

Try talking like us, maybe we can follow along, eh?
Sounds like the wrong class to learn statistics for an actuarial exam. Unless you're trying to meet chicks, of course.

Default Not chicks, exams.

I signed up for the intro class on the good faith that it would actualy teach me basic statistics; however, I was wrong.
I am currently getting a B in the class because I handed in my first homework in pen, not pencil.

I can't wait until its over, because I get very confused by what she is asking for on the exam in class. I know how I would like to solve these problems; however, I am not able to go beyond basic math.

Enough of that, am I on the right track?

I didn't mean to be so harsh. Sounds like you're in a bad situation.
That is like the class that some of my ex-girlfriends took. You know, sociology majors, psychology majors, etc. People who don't do the math thing.
What you actually needed was an upper-level intro prob/stat course. You'll need to know about integrating for prob/stat for Course 1, something that won't be covered at all in the class you're taking (I wager).

As for your question, heck if I know. I might need your null hypothesis, if only as a stalling tactic.

Default Null hyptho

Height Arm Length Difference
71 73 -2
68 71 -3
72 71 1
66 61 5
73 72 1
67 67 0
71 68 3
71 68 3
64 64 0
63 61 2
69 68 1
68 69 -1
69 69 0
65 64 1
74 75 -1

Mean of differences: 0.666666667
SD of sample: 2.058663459
Est. sample error: 0.53154462
test value: 1.254206406
t-value 2.145
alpha = .05
Ho: µd = 0
H1: µd not = 0
Fail to reject because test value is not greater than T-value. There is enough evidence to support Ho???

Default not the language I would use.

The language "There is enough evidence to support Ho" is not what I would use. You did not prove Ho, you only failed to reject it.

What I would say is "there is insufficient evidence to reject Ho".

good luck.
