Default Ladies of the actuarial world

Ok, here goes. I'm sure I'll get some negative remarks about this post, but what the heck, that's what message boards are for. How are the ladies in the actuarial world? Hot? Any sob stories out there where you met your wife crunching numbers while she was in the cubical next door? Be honest!

On another note, what do the gender numbers look like? Is it mostly equal, or is it biased in one way or another?

Hmmm, a heavily mathematical field... could it be that a particular sex would be more represented than another? What do you think?

Obviously, among the older actuaries, you're not going to find many women. The numbers are sure to be better among current students. I used to be in academia in math, and the % of current higher level students was about 20% female. The numbers for actuaries may be better, but probably not much better.

As for the dating scene: at my own company, I do know some of the students have dated, and one couple got married (in the last year, I think). So it works for some people, especially if the student program is large enough (and they're young enough... those of us who came to the biz later in life are generally already married)

Actuarial ladies are total hotties!
(what did you expect to hear, asking at an actuarial forum? (; )

As for the distribution, it's a lot more even gender-wise than you might expect if you consider it a technical field. I'm sure it varies by company, location, seniority, and likely industry, but in my limited experience it's got about equal numbers of male and female actuarial types.

In my company, all married actuaries/actuarial students' significant half are non-actuaries, those of us singles are still single.

Not sure if this counts since I'm no longer taking exams, but I do still work in an actuarial department...but I've been told I am cute. :P

In my experience of "rating" other women in my field, I haven't run across any "uglies".

In my completely unbiased opinion, I would have to say that yes, we're totally hot.

In my experience, the male/female ratio is usually about 2 to 1. However, it varies by age. The senior actuaries in my department are all men. Among the students, there are still more males than females, but it's a little bit closer to being 50/50.
