Default Those crass Red Sox fans are at it again

I don't remember where all the vitriol is about how crass the Boston Red Sox fans are, so I thought I would start a new thread to highlight the lows to which they will stoop:
Quote:
By KIRSTEN SCHARNBERG, Chicago Tribune

BOSTON -- There are the kinds of miracles that happen in the world of sports, and then there are those that happen in the real world.

Outside Fenway Park on Thursday, a day after the Red Sox broke their 86-year drought to win the World Series in a four-game sweep, a fanatical crowd had gathered around a car driven by Manny Ramirez, who had recently arrived from St. Louis.

"Man-ny! Man-ny! Man-ny!" the fans chanted, shoving one another to get a closer look at the Sox left fielder. "MVP! MVP! MVP!"

A gray-haired man stood on the edge of the chaos holding his 7-year-old grandson, a wide-eyed boy who was bald from recent chemotherapy treatments. Someone in the throng spotted the pair and began to shout, "Let the boy talk to Manny!"

Amazingly, the decked-out fans, all trying to secure their own historical autographs, parted to let the child approach the silver Chrysler 300.

"God bless you," Ramirez told Zach Hedstrone as he signed the left shoulder of the Boston jersey the boy was wearing. "And good luck to you."

In the hours after the long-suffering Red Sox became baseball's champions for the first time since 1918, television shows, radio airwaves and Internet blogs had been filled with heartfelt stories of grown men being reduced to tears upon seeing the home team finally snag a championship. Now, at the sight of little Zach shyly shaking the baseball great's hand, grown men were crying again.

"I can't believe the crowd did that," said Zach's grandfather, Jim Smith, 74, a Boston native and lifelong Red Sox fan. "He'll remember that for the rest of his life."

This crowd blocked his car and ESPN film crew recorded the "event" that seemed staged. Maybe the gray-haired old man had a little blood on his sock.

I thought the whole thing smacked of fishiness. If the kid wasn't in on it though, than I have no problem with it. If the kid was in on it, then .

/assuming it was setup
