Although they endorsed him over GWB, TNR never was big on John Kerry. (When TNR endorsed Lieberman in the primaries, they had stafffers also write articles making the case for Dean, Gephart, Edwards, and Clarke - notice anyone missing there?) Another pointy bit from the same piece: Quote:

I think I said the same thing. Lieberman (would have) neutralized a lot of Bush's advantages in the election.

Imagine the gnashing of teeth throughout Arabia. It might have been worth it.

Lieberman might have pulled in a few more moderates, and even peeled off a few fairly-commited Republicans (I like the guy, but I wouldn't have considered voting for him over GWB), but would the base have turned out for him? |

Touche, Pseudolus. But lets imagine for a moment how Edwards' career might have turned out. His name recognition would be at Lieberman levels, - who would turn down a vp candidate for their attorney. i reckon he could pull 1500 per hour on a corporate law case. Taht kind of money could buy him a third home in malibu. A third home is a big step for a middle aged man. Not picking Liebermann caused Kerry/edwards to lose the election but in the long run, Edwards may have benefitted! Oh, to be a fly on his 1040!

I think there is a sizeable portion of the electorate who would never consider voting for a non-Christian for President. I don't think Lieberman would have done better.

I supported Bush because I doubted Kerry's resolve and judgment in fighting Islamist terrorism; I would have supported Lieberman.
