Default Anyone taking both FM and M next time if you failed?

I'm tempted since FM is basically cut down to interest theory. They've also taken things out of M, like Markov Chains, Brownian motion, Ruin Theory, and Simulation.

It just might all fit in my head, especially since interest theory won't take but a few days to review now that it's pounded into my head.

Plus, we get more time before the spring exams.

Any thoughts?

I'm hoping I passed, but if not, then definitely. I know I can do IT as I was in the 80th percentile last sitting.

I very well may. The double raise I would get if I passed both would be wicked sweet.

To do, or not to do?

OK, lets agree on 1 thing, the concepts of Interest theory are relatively straight forward, and are one of the favourite topics in Course 2, from what I have seen.
However I dont think the SOA is going to make the exam easier. I'd say it depends on how you did in Int theory this sitting. If you have a full time job, your study time will be less. If you manage to get in loads of study time, go for it!

Weighting the factors -> new exam system + amt of study time available + %ile's in grade slip (Which I hope you don't get to see) = good decision.

Just my 2 cts.

Should I unfortunately fail Course 2, I will be taking MF and Course M in the Spring.

I'm not taking any chances. I just want two exams to put on my resume, I don't care what they are. I've failed course two enough times and I'm going to cut my losses and go for the sure (or at least the more sure) thing.

If I fail, I think I may just take the IT exam. With the new system, first offering of the exam, it's really hard to know what to expect. Rather over prepare for the 2 hour exam than not prepare enough for M because I spent too much time for MF.

PS - it's called MF everywhere I saw, but when I looked at the preliminary exams application they called it FM...what's the deal?

Yeah its true, they changed it to FM because MF is short for another not-so-appropriate two words and the SOA can't have that. Something like that…. I posted this information about a month ago, I don’t know if you read it or not.

I've taken Course 3 before so I'm in a bit of a different boat than most people and hence why I will take both. Taking FM and a totally new exam presents a different situation for some and so I can see why many would not be willing to do both at the same time.

I'll be doing FM or MF or whatever the MF is called =P and the M exam - I wish they kept Brownian Motion and all those things as I already had to learn them all for classes. Oh well - I'll pass the IT exam without studying much, but I'll almost definitely fail the M exam unless I pull a 6 out of my MF rear.
