In the Nero chapter of Suetonius, and this bit made me laugh out loud (somewhere outside in Hartford where I was reading it):

Quote:
While he was singing no one was allowed to leave the theatre even for the most urgent reasons. And so it is said that some women gave birth to children there, while many who were worn out with listening and applauding, secretly leaped from the wall, since the gates at the entrance were closed, or feigned death and were carried out as if for burial.
But hey, Nero wasn't all bad:
Quote:
The pantomimic actors and their partisans were banished from the city.

Oh, I finished Snuff, which I enjoyed, so I put a bunch of other Pratchett books on hold at the library.

Finished re-reads of Second Foundation and Sense and Sensibility.

Honestly, I picture Suetonius as Rex Reed in a toga.

The only time I've truly laughed out loud while reading recently was while I was reading a cheesy romance novel. Our hero and heroine were stuck in a desert after a plane crash and trying to get a campsite together. Our heroine was musing that it was a good thing that although the hero had made his intent to jump her bones clear, he was delaying acting on this until after all the immediate survival tasks were completed. She noted that it would be dangerous to be stuck with "Gonad the Barabarian".

Luckily, I was alone at the time, so I didn't have to explain WHAT I was reading to anybody.

I've had some epic laughing jags due to what I was reading, but the most extreme was when I read Me Talk Pretty One Day while on a plane trip.

I think I alarmed the guy next to me - I didn't want to bother anybody with my normal laughter (which is loud and accompanied by snorts), so I'm crying, shaking, and my face is extremely red. The tears were just pouring down my face. I start laughing just remembering that.

So, World War Z:

I'm up to about page 50. The book seems to be a series of short stories all tied together with a common thread. The main guy goes around interviewing all these survivors, so each story is mainly first person past tense told by several different people.

So far, each individual story has been hit or miss. There's a lot of effort to go foreign, so the author takes the opportunity to hit lots of oversea controversial topics (some are interesting and some are just showing off the author's research).

Also, the speech patterns of each person are strangely similar (except for some who tend to curse more).

I usually hate reading books like this, but I must admit, overall it's keeping my interest and I can't wait to see where the zombies show up next!
