Default Is the US stingy?

We are giving 35 million, as of now. That is a little more than 10 cents per American. I think that sounds stingy.

Lots of criticism about Bush not being sympathetic enough. The world came to help the US after 9-11, and most leaders spoke out immediately. Bush was on vacation and did very little. I believe he will speak out today 4 days later.

I think this is a step back in how the world sees the US. I am very disappointed.

UN Official Backs Off

Powell did a good job of pointing out that the US hasn't even determined how much aid will be given total, and that the reported amounts are merely initial amounts. He also reminded the world that the US is the #1 food aid contributor in the world.

Anyway, the tactless idiot at the UN apologized for his comments yesterday.

Get your facts straight. We are giving 35 million because the Bush admin can't offer more before going to Congress. There will be a Congressional hearing today or tomorrow where it is predicted that more than a billion dollars will be granted.

It is clear Bush doesn't give a crap, if it doesn't help his anti terror agenda.

GP, despite your Bush hatred, your comment is very unfair. The US has almost doubled its foreign aid contributions under the Bush administration.

So you agree with his blatantly false statement?

I do believe that more will come later.

What won't change is that Bush's first statement comes today.
