The Mahler Study Aids: CAS Exam 3, SOA Exam M, and Joint Exam 4/C
The Mahler Study Aids are clear and concise, with an excellent balance of technical & non-technical discussions, hard & easy problems, and theoretical & applied problems. Theory is illustrated throughout with numerous examples. In order to aid students to get through the large amount of material on the exam and direct their study efforts, the Mahler Study Aids have the following features: • More important sections are in bold. • Each section of a Study Aid covers only a few ideas. • Important formulas and ideas are in bold. • Each Study Aid has at the beginning a chart of past exam questions by section. • Each Study Aid has at the end a section of important ideas and formulas. • Highly recommended problems (about 1/6 of the total) are double underlined. • Recommended problems (about 1/6 of the total) are underlined. • There is a breakdown of points on past exams by Study Aid. • There are Practice Exams to do in the weeks prior to the exam. Many students may be unable to attend an NEAS seminar. Because Mahler’s materials are invaluable for exam preparation, they are sold separately: $285 for the Joint Exam 4/C material, $265 for the CAS Exam 3 material, and $220 for the SOA Exam M material, plus postage (see web site or brochure for charges by location and by type of mail). All seminar participants receive the full set of manuals, as well as study materials from any other course instructors. All NEAS study material is copyright by NEAS or by its faculty. Unlawful reproduction of these materials is strictly prohibited by U.S. copyright law and by professional ethics. Mr. Mahler’s study aids for CAS Exam 3 cover the portion of the syllabus he teaches. They cover the material other than Life Contingencies on the CAS Exam 3. There are six Mahler’s Guides for CAS Exam 3, which cover in detail the topics of: Frequency Models, Loss Models, Compound Distribution Models, Stochastic Process Models, Ruin Models, and Statistics. Also included are Practice Exams. Not covered is the syllabus material in Actuarial Mathematics. Mahler’s Guides total about 1500 pages of material. Included are about 1400 practice problems written by Mr. Mahler, with complete solutions. Also included are about 450 past exam questions, with complete solutions. • "Mahler’s Guide to Frequency Distributions" • "Mahler’s Guide to Stochastic Processes " • "Mahler’s Guide to Loss Distributions" • "Mahler’s Guide to Aggregate Distributions" • "Mahler’s Guide to Ruin Theory" • "Mahler’s Guide to Statistics" • Practice Exams written by Mr. Mahler Sample pages are on the NEAS web page. Mr. Mahler’s study aids for SOA Exam M include the above study guides except for Ruin Theory and Statistics, which are not on the SOA syllabus. They cover the material other than Life Contingencies on the SOA Exam M. Not covered is the syllabus material in Actuarial Mathematics. Mahler’s study aids for Joint Exam 4/C cover the entire syllabus. There are ten Mahler’s Guides for Exam 4/C, which cover in detail the topics of: Estimation and Fitting of Frequency Distributions and Loss Distributions, Credibility Theory, Simulation, Estimation and Fitting of Survival Models, and Graduation. Mahler’s Guides total about 2000 pages of material. Included are about 1300 practice problems written by Mr. Mahler, with complete solutions. Also included are about 700 past exam questions with complete solutions. • "Mahler’s Guide to Fitting Frequency Distributions" • "Mahler’s Guide to Classical Credibility" • "Mahler’s Guide to Fitting Loss Distributions" • “Mahler’s Guide to Buhlmann Credibility and Bayesian Analysis" • "Mahler’s Guide to Conjugate Priors" • “Mahler’s Guide to Simulation” • ”Mahler’s Guide to Semiparametric Estimation” • “Mahler’s Guide to Empirical Bayesian Credibility” • “Mahler’s Guide to Survival Analysis” • “Mahler’s Guide to Graduation” • Practice Exams written by Mr. Mahler Sample pages are on the NEAS web page. http://www.neas-seminars.com/Misc/ |

Mr. Mahler, do you know when the remainder of the Course C manuals will be mailed? I received the first three manuals last week. Not that I've gotten through them all yet, I was just wondering.

Mr. Mahler, the order form says that Suvival and Regression can be purchased separately. Is it possible to get Survival & Graduation separately? Thanks.

Mr. Mahler,
This may have already been asked (if so, sorry!), but which sections have been added or changed since the exam conversion from Exam 4 to Exam C? Is it possible just to order these sections from NEAS? Thank you! |

Mr. Mahler -
I'm looking at the bottom exercise on page 21 and the exercise on the top of page 22 of Fitting Frequency Distributionts, and am wondering if there is an error... Why did the 2 get dropped in front of ln2? L=lamda I have for an answer: 7ln(L) - 10(L) -2ln2 (and for tht top of 22: lamda = 7/10 like your answer because the factor of 2 does not impact the partial derivative) Thanks for the clarification |
