Default Blind date, the non-TV related poll

Have you ever been on a blind date and how did it go? I must say I've had nothing but fantastic times on them.

I have friends that have tried to set me up with others but it's always with people that I don't find attractive at all.

That's the paradox, attractive people don't have to have likable personalities, do they?

I guess the answer all depends on your use for them.

I chose the don't like binary option.

I went on lots of blind dates in my single days.
I met Mr. M on a blind date.
Most of my blind dates were fun, but no sparks.
The only two really horrible dates I ever had were blind dates.

So they ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous.

I think I've discussed them before:

1. Doc the drunk
(He went to the bar where we were to meet a few hours earlier than me, in order to get a head start on his drinking. Since he was an ER doc and couldn't drink while working, his MO was to get plastered as quick as possible and stay that way throughout his days off.) He started of our conversation with

Doc: "So you're an actuary. Do you know John Doe?"
Me: "Yes, he's my boss."
Doc: "Yeah, I know him. He's a jerk."

It went downhill from there. He told someone later that I left early because I was scared of him. Apparently he could not distinguish between fear and disgust.

2. Spike the indigent

Spike called and suggested we meet for dinner. I said sure. Spike called later and said he was a little short of cash that weekend. Could we make it lunch? On the next call, it became Sunday brunch, dutch. He explained that he made it a rule to only withdraw $X in cash on a weekend, and he'd already blown that weekend's allotment. When we finally met, he could only afford a coffee. I got myself a muffin. I left early.

Yeah, the muffin sounds familiar. Still funny, even on the second telling!

Haven't you even been afraid you'd step in something disgusting?
