i think you should rename this thread... "worst conference in history of the world gets 3 teams in elite 8." at least one idiot around here has called them that.

Had the ref not blown the call at the end (was the fix in?) and made the correct call down the stretch (sorry Raferty, your counting "1,2,3 steps" when the picture shows me differently, does not make it so) ACC would have been entirely eliminated.

Seth Green calling North Carolina the best team in the country, may want to rethink that, as Villanova, without their best player, on a poor shooting nite, wins it in the absence of that call.

Doubt it. They still woulda been down by 1. They were down by 3 at that point.

I agree that it was a bogus call, but that is a bold statement to say they woulda won, still down by 1.

Trailing 66-63 with 11.6 seconds left, Villanova had a chance to take North Carolina to overtime when former St. Raymnd's star Allen Ray drove to the basket. He was stopped by Melvin Scott and hacked by Rashad McCants.

Referee Tom O'Neill blew his whistle. He called traveling on Ray. Television replays did not support the call.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The whistle blew in the final seconds just as the ball left the hand of Villanova's Allan Ray. Defender Melvin Scott only hoped his foul came before the basket.

Much to Scott's surprise -- not to mention Ray and his teammates and coaches -- referee Tom O'Neill instead called traveling, leaving North Carolina with possession of the ball and a three-point lead.

"Once they called traveling, I felt like a kid in a candy store, I was so happy," Scott said.
'cuse elliminated on a bogus technical foul
uconn eliminated on a non-called offensive foul by nc st
'nova eliminated on a bogus travel that should've been a 3-point play

and the big east still has as many teams in the elite 8 (or 1 more if you count louisville) as the acc, who early in the season had as many as 4 teams ranked in the top 8 in the country. O-VER-RA-TED!!!!!!!!!!

WAAAAAAAHHHHH.

Bad calls happen. Beat your opponent by 10 and it doesn't matter.

WAAAAAAHHHHH.

Step 1 (establishes left foot as pivot): http://www.lobos.nih.gov/~hlwood/snapshot1a.png

Step 2: http://www.lobos.nih.gov/~hlwood/snapshot2a.png

Step 3: http://www.lobos.nih.gov/~hlwood/snapshot3a.png

He stepped of his left foot twice and used his right foot in between. That's 3 steps.

I would agree with anybody who said that similar plays are almost never called a travel by officials, but I think that play was a travel. Also, no foul was called, so Nova would have been down one anyways.

I'm sorry, that is not 3 steps. He has both feet planted. He takes a step with his right foot, a step with his left foot, his right foot leaves the ground again, but the shot is released before the right foot hits the ground. That's 2 steps - no travel.

Also, there can't be a foul and a travel on the same play, so your last point is utterly ridiculous.
