They're all out and alive, and in remarkably good condition, particularly after sitting in 3-4 feet of cold contaminated water for three days.

The engineering behind the rescue operation was phenomenal. These coal mine cave-ins usually almost always don't come to a happy conclusion. But the work that everybody did was sensational.

The only down-side of this was seeing acting governor Schweiker mug for the cameras during the rescue operation. Why do politicians always have to show their face during times like this?

he's such a work of art, that guy....

we've been worrying about that thing for a few days now; then the 20 hour wait for a new drill bit (not to be found at the ol' Home Despot!), and then the news that popping a hole into the cavern could cause a torrent of water to fill the void and kill them.... the headlines this morning were such GREAT news!!!

Let's not forget the 13 miners who died last September in Brookwood, AL. These families got very little attention from the media because of September 11.

These guys asked for chew and beer.

Don't they know that these items aren't allowed to be given to miners?

Not so sure that's the case on this one. Schweiker is getting out of politics. He could have run for election this fall and is not going to. In fact, he seemed pretty un-political throughout according to some of the guys that worked there (he was really at the site, not just when the camaras were there, and he talked to the families before talking to the media.)
