Can anyone give some advice as to how to type actuarial symbols into excel or word. Is there another program that would be better to use. I am planning on typing out a formula sheet with all relevant formulas for exam M. I am doing this to post on my the actuarial website for my school as additional help for other students and myself for the fall exam session.
If anyone has tried and succeeded please let me know how. Microsoft equation editor in word is the only thing I can think of, and I am not aware of a way to type in temporary life annuities: i.e. a "double dot" x angle n (that is supposed to be an n-year temporary life annuity-due on a life aged x). There are also other symbols I don't know how to type in, this is just an example. |

Go to Insert->Object... and select Microsoft Equation 3.0 (that's what it is on my computer). Try it out and play with it. Works pretty nicely.

Ya, I am aware of equation editor 3.0 and have used it for other things.
I just don't think it is able to do the "angles." I am really looking for a tool that will do everything, I know it has to be out there somewhere. A co-worker just said something about "WinTech," I don't know if anyone has heard of this, maybe it would be good, not sure. Any ideas. |

LaTeX would work, and could save it to a pdf.

I don't if you are aware of LaTex. It is a text editing software. Similar to html. There is a learning curve, but its great for typing any mathematical notation. You should be able to google it and find free software. |

Thanks, I will look for LaTex and give it a try.
If there are any more suggestions please let me know. |

You need a text editor in which to create the pre-processed file. Notepad will do. Personally, I use WinEdit, http://www.winedt.com although it is not free. http://www.winedt.com/HTML/registration.html The benefit is that WinEdit identifies your MikTeX install, and can be run directly from WinEdit to create the dvi/pdf file instead of using a command-line interface. http://www.winedt.com/HTML/tex.html

You can also get a program called Math Type which I have used to type out Life Con. stuff. I am not sure it's a freeware but I am pretty sure there's a trial version of some sort. It works the same way as equation editor except you have a LOT more freedom in what you want your symbols, etc to look like.
