He doesn't like to read on his vacations. Remember the Osama determined to attack the US memo in August 2001?

Wow. Imagine a memo that says that Osama is determined to attack the U.S.
Yup. The attention that was given to it over the next 6 weeks before the attack happened was very impressive.

"To Bush and his advisers, that criticism fundamentally misunderstands his Texas sojourns. Those who think he does not remain in command, aides say, do not understand the modern presidency or Bush's own work habits. At the ranch, White House officials say, Bush continues to receive daily national security briefings, sign documents, hold teleconferences with aides and military commanders, and even meet with foreign leaders. And from the president's point of view, the long Texas stints are the best way to clear his mind and reconnect with everyday America."

And when my boss tells me I spend too much time on the AO, I will tell him he doesn't understand the modern actuary or my work habits, because I also respond to emails and answer my phone when it rings, and even meet with the pricing actuaries occasionally.

Hopefully he learned his lesson on ignoring memos the first time and has been paying more attention on his "vacations" since 2001 and we won't need to have that argument again.

How does one "reconnect with everyday America" on a ranch miles away from anything other than "W lives here" gift shops?
